While I saw opportunities for AI to enhance productivity and streamline operations – perhaps by assisting with dispatch or parts management, ultimately benefiting the entire organization and evolving roles over time – the focus of my former management took a different path.

The decision to prioritize AI for constant monitoring of field technicians, the very backbone of the company who endure on-call schedules, long hours, and extensive travel, felt deeply misguided. This approach, seemingly driven by short-sighted profit motives in conjunction with insurance mandates, added significant and unnecessary stress to already demanding jobs. It felt like a failure to recognize the true value and pressures faced by the technical teams who generate the company's revenue.

The administrative teams, with their standard hours and comfortable office environments, seemed disconnected from the realities of field work. Instead of using AI to collaboratively shape the future and improve efficiency across all levels, the emphasis on surveillance felt like a burden placed squarely on those already carrying the heaviest load. This wasn't just a missed opportunity; it was a decision that, in my view, demonstrated a profound lack of understanding and appreciation for the technicians. The long-term consequences of such decisions, particularly on employee well-being and the retention of skilled professionals, remain to be seen. As AI continues its rapid advancement, the choices companies make today will undoubtedly shape their competitive landscape tomorrow."
